Wind Up radios – music to many ears
Posted about 7 months ago
We received a donation of wind up radios from Iain Crockart, a 2008 Enduro Africa rider from the UK, who wanted to make a real difference to the children in the area.
These radios have been distributed to our Transkei schools to be used as a incentive to students to attend school regularly and to improve on their academic results.
The school work closely with us, by providing updated information on the learners. Those who achieve receive a radio, which ultimately is heard and enjoyed by all members of the household. This simple item, now opens many doors to these learners and indeed the community at large. Vast parts of the Transkei are without water or electricity, so a radio is an impossibility and in an area of extreme poverty, the purchase of batteries is a luxury that cannot be afforded. Wind up radios have certainly brought not only music to many ears, but also a link to the outside world providing entertainment and education.
