DEPARTMENT OF EDCUATION PRAISES THE WORK OF TOUCH AFRICA
2011-04-01
Over the past two years Touch Africa has been working with a small school in rural Transkei called Mgcawezulu.
This is an on-going project which still requires assistance from funders to ensure that these rural children are given the best chance possible of a fulfilling education by providing them with infrastructure and 21st century technology. Please take some time to read the thank you letter we have received from the Department of Education.
To date we have been able to assist with two new classrooms, electrification, jungle gym, television, DVD machine and educational DVD’s.
The school is still in dire need of extra classroom space, desks, chairs, library and a kitchen facility. Although they have land, they have no sports facilities and an upgrade of the land is required along with the installation of a netball court and soccer pitch.
The costs of providing these basic amenities are:
- One classroom R250 000
- One kitchen R200 000
- Desks and Chairs for 30 children, R600 per child
- Netball Court R120 000
- Soccer Pitch R 180 000
