Storms River community to receive crèche

2010-02-01

The small community of Storms River has once before received assistance from Touch Africa.

In 2007, the Storms River Primary School received a make-over and a container kitchen which today feeds more than 200 children on a daily basis.

After more than two years of discussions with the local community, municipality and the community forum, the go-ahead has finally been given to utilise municipal land to build the crèche. The local municipality is to supply all services to the site, which is situated opposite the community hall.

Ilitha Creche run by a tenacious and determined lady called Gloria, is soon to become a reality for her and the more than 30 children who she currently houses in a small shed behind her home.

Gloria has been supported for many years by the local Montessori teachers in Storms River and Plettenberg Bay and they too are excited at the prospect of her hard work in gaining her Montessori accreditation being put to excellent use in a new school.

The funding for the erection of the classroom was raised by an American, Steve Huff who was an Enduro Africa participant two years ago. The project is set to start at the beginning of 2010 and we expect to see an increase in attendance by the local children. The crèche will act as a feeder to the local primary school.

Funding is still required to equip the classroom. If you would like to help please contact Elise on elise@touchafrica.info. The cost of kitting out the classroom is in the region of R25 000.00.
