Ilitha Educare Centre

2010-06-19

Ilitha Educare Centre
The story of the Ilitha crèche, reads like a fairy tale. From a tiny tin shack without light, heating or equipment, to an entire school, consisting of a classroom, ablution facility and a kitchen.
Dedicated Montesorri qualified teacher, Gloria, used to teach her young charges in a tin shanty behind her ramshackle house. There was no floor, one window and a leaky roof. The children had very little in terms of equipment and no outside play area or equipment.
Today, she stands proud in the new building, sponsored by KFC ADD HOPE and individual American backer. The community in the little village of Storms River, banded together to assist with installing a vegetable garden, grassed play areas and perimeter fencing. The children now play safely in the fresh air, enjoy a warm, bright inviting classroom as well as being provided with two meals a day.
This is a wonderful success and one of the jewels in the crown for Touch Africa. There are many hundreds of crèche and pre-school facilities just like Ilitha Educare Centre which need help.
Providing early learning is one of our main goals, and investing in a project such as this, is guaranteed to ensure that the most vulnerable of our young children are given the best start possible.
